Spontaneous Hemoperitoneum Due to Peritoneal Seeding of Leiomyosarcoma of the Small Intestine - Case report -
Abstract
Leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine is so rare that its diagnosis often is made by exclusion.
Early diagnosis of leiomyosarcoma is seldom accomplished before complications such as bleeding or obstruction appear. Diagnosis can be established only by exploratory laparotomy and histologic examination. Physicians must increase their
sensitivity
to
the subtle but persistent symptoms that necessitate a small bowel evaluation.
Recently, we experienced one case of spontaneous hemoperitoneum due to peritoneal seeding of leiomyosarcoma of the small intestine in a 42-year-old man, who was treated at our Department of Surgery, Wonkwang University Hospital in March, 1995.
